Showcase XXVII
|
The finds from houses of Cherson include not only
fishing implements but also shells of molluscs and remains of crustaceans. The
examples of these are exhibited in the vitrine as well.
Dredges
were used for gathering edible molluscs such as oysters, mussels, and
scallops. One of such artefacts is
exhibited in the middle of vitrine. Above the valves of shells, you can see a
small bronze spoon; it was used for opening shells and eating molluscs.
Salting
fish required a great amount of salt. City dwellers extracted salt not only for
their own needs but for sale as well. Cherson salt was exported to Taurica and
the Asia Minor.
