Similar to the classical antiquity, the majority
of architectonic members were made of marble imported from Prokonnesos; Cherson
received them as finished articles.
On tall
supporting columns in the centre of the hall there are marble capitals from
early Christian churches of Cherson.
In the recessed niche (or apse) there are other
marbled architectonic members from church interiors: altar rail, miniature
capitals and pillars, and fragments of openwork gratings and cornices.
In the
middle of the hall, on a low podium there are mosaic floor fragments from the
churches of Cherson.
To make mosaic floors of Cherson, there used fine
cubic blocks of fired clay and natural stone such as marble, sandstone and
limestone.
The
mosaics that decorated walls had a different look.
